Hilltop

Hilltop is situated within the quiet village of Ruardean Hill, with panoramic views of the Forest of Dean. It is approximately 15 miles from Gloucester, 6 miles from Ross on Wye and 3 miles from Cinderford. Hilltop is a large, spacious six bedded, purpose built bungalow, which is wheelchair accessible.
The home was opened in 1994 and provides for adults with a wide range of learning disabilities, including profound and multiple disabilities. Four of the bedrooms offer respite care, providing temporary residential care for people. This service enables both carers and the people themselves to have regular breaks away from their home and give families the opportunity to have a break or undertake activities and/or holidays of their own.
The home also provides a Community Day Care service, allowing people to attend Hilltop during the daytime only, again giving both a break from home and the opportunity to learn new skills and to meet other people.
Each person who utilises the Hilltop service has their own person centred plan. We aim to encourage and support people, ensuring that information and advice are freely available to enable them to continue to pursue their chosen lifestyle. The services and facilities that will be provided for a respite stay are fully agreed beforehand, ensuring individual needs are fully met. This means that we endeavour, wherever possible, to ensure that people continue to attend their daily activity programmes, should they so choose.
Staff are skilled and well trained in meeting a diverse range of needs. The home also calls on the services of allied professionals from the local Community Learning Disability Team, as appropriate.
Gloucestershire people wishing to utilise the respite service, are welcome to arrange a visit to the home. Respite care is arranged through the person's Social Worker.
